The fountain of youth is SUNSCREEN

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Summer fun is no fun if you are not protecting the largest organ in your body, YOUR SKIN!

Suntanning

Sunscreen used daily does protect you from the sun, it slows down wrinkles, brown spots, and premature aging. It blocks the harmful rays from penetrating the skin and triggering skin disorders, prevents skin cancer especially melanoma which is life-threatening especially for women in their 20's. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 to 3 cancers worldwide is skin cancer, 95% of malignant melanomas are caused by excessive sun damage. Sunscreens applied daily prevent blotchiness, redness, and eruptions of red veins maybe not as serious as squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma but still "not pretty", the sun weakens your skin and subjecting it to more bruising and even acne. By not using sunscreen you breakdown skin proteins such as collagen, keratin, elastin all very necessary to keep your skin smooth and healthy.

Summer Beach Fun

The advantages of using sunscreen daily are felt in the long run, immediately you are protecting your skin but the protection pays off over the years where your skin remains even-toned, supple, and the collagen and elastin undamaged. It is also very important to use a "natural" sunscreen especially because you are using it every day, apply last before makeup, and preferably on top of a serum instead of a cream. The creamy moisturizer's under a sunscreen is usually too heavy.

The only ingredients should be zinc oxide titanium oxide never with any chemical filters, noncomedogenic, broad-spectrum (meaning protecting from both UVA and UVB rays)

minimum of 30 SPF ( sun protection factor) and make sure you check the expiration date, no longer than 2 to 3 years. The SPF refers to the ability of a sunscreen to block the UVB rays which cause sunburns as well as the UVA rays that can cause deeper skin damage. Sunscreens between 30 - 50 protect between 96 to 98% from the sun. UV lights from tanning beds also cause wrinkling, age spots, and Cancer.

The sunscreens that I carry have the natural ingredients and the most crucial ingredients mentioned by the American cancer association, they are also award-winning sunscreens. You will love the way they feel look and especially protect your skin. I always recommend for the summer that you make your sunscreen your moisturizer and if it is tinted it can act as a foundation too!

Environ Antioxidant RAD

My latest find is Environ Antioxidant RAD Sunscreen SPF is a sun protection cream containing sun filters and reflectors to provide SPF 30 sun protection, along with antioxidants, titanium dioxide, beta-carotene, and vitamins C and E, which help to fight free radicals. It is suitable for all skin types and all ages, including babies older than six months. In addition to 8% titanium dioxide, Environ RAD Sunscreen SPF 30 contains Camellia Sinensis (Green) Tea Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum (Edelweiss) Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera Gel) Juice, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ubiquinone (CoQ10), it cannot get any better.

Summer Sunscreen

Apply you sunscreen of at least 30 SPF 1/2 hour before you go out do not forget: ears, lips, back of hands, scalp. (prone to sun damage because it has little fat) neck, chin, upper chest (also has thinner skin) easily sunburns and develops age spots, and do not forget tops of feet since they are very easy to access for melanoma. Smooth on your sunscreen do not rub it in your skin and if you are outdoors reapply every two to three hours if you are perspiring even more often.

Always use your sunscreen and get naked to check for signs of cancer early detection is prevention. Here is the A B C D E rule.

Melanoma Detection

Asymmetry - one half of the mole doesn't match the other

Border - irregularity

Color - that is not uniform

Diameter- greater than 6mm ( about the size of a pencil eraser)

Evolving - size shape or color

Enjoy the summer sun, but be safe!
